It’s Halloween soon , so here’s my take on a spooky treat. It’s super easy and only takes about 10 minutes, a few ingredients and an ice cube tray to create the “tombstone” mold!
Chocolatey, crispy, sweet goodness!
Recipe: Makes 1 dozen (Double for a large gathering)
Gluten free
Chocolate tombstone ingredients:
1 1/4 cups vegan semi sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup Natures Path Gluten Free chocolate crisp cereal (for non vegans, just use regular rice cereal if you can’t find this kind)
1 1/4 teaspoon grapeseed oil
Materials needed:
1 ice cube tray
Pam non-stick spray
Food writing gel for spooky writing (white works best)
Toothpicks
Pack of Halloween stickers all the same shape
Styrofoam ring
2 packs of Halloween garland
Round cake stand or read instructions below on how to make your own like I did
Tip: I purchased all my non food materials at Walmart. So easy and inexpensive!
Directions:
Add the chocolate chips and oil into a measuring cup with a pouring spout (makes it much easier) and microwave at 30 second intervals a few times, stirring in between each session, until almost all melted. Stir until smooth. Stir in 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons only of the cereal. (The remaining 2 tablespoons are for the tops.) Spray the ice cube tray lightly with non-stick spray. Pour the chocolate carefully about two-third’s full into 12 molds. It helps to guide the chocolate in the molds with a spoon.
Add the remaining cereal on top, slightly pressing into the chocolate so it will stick once hardened. Use more cereal than the recipe calls for, if necessary. Place in the freezer for 10-15 minutes, only.
Next, flip over the tray and tap or press into the molds and the chocolates should slide right out. Write spooky “Rip” if desired, or leave plain. The non-stick spray serves 2 purposes, easy removal and once it dries, it creates a rusty tombstone effect. 🙂
Next, insert the toothpicks if using.
Notice the rusty tombstone effect that the non-stick spray leaves once it dries….pretty cool effect, huh!
If using the stickers, simply place 2 stickers back to back at the top of the toothpick. They need to be the same exact shape of stickers for them to match up on their opposing sides.
Centerpiece instructions:
Gather the 2 packs of garland and styrofoam wreath.
Wrap garland around styrofoam ring and tuck the ends in.
I didn’t have the right shaped dessert stand, so I created one. I flipped over a pedestal bowl, then flipped over a round plate and placed it on top with some orange napkins…voila, dessert stand!. Place inside the Halloween wreath and there’s your display centerpiece.
Chocolates are best stored at room temperature. They remain hard and will not melt. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
These look way too delicious, I mean gosh, it looks addictive and chocolatey and the only thing that is RIP-ing is a diet 😉
Cheers

The rice crisps must add nice texture to the chocolate. Good idea!
Haha! Yes, they do. The first batch I made was just the crispies on the bottoms but I decided to put them all throughout and they have a really nice crunch…similar to a kit kat candy bar, yum!! 🙂 Thank you!
Brandi these are beautiful!
Thank you Heather!! Especially telling me my tombstones are beautiful, teehee 🙂
